The lilac is my essence,
hibiscus, my heart.
I’ve been called as an expression
of life’s rare & fleeting arts.
Today, I choose
to expose my fragile blooms
(to seek the sun)
(to feel the rain)
& know whence I became.
In the sacredness of flowers
I am an isolated event —
planted in another realm
& capable of enlightenment.
Today, I choose
no lamenting of my youth
(no aches unearthed)
(no feelings shamed)
For in the transience of roses
I know whence I became.
